Mohican Picnic August 23, 2009

As our last summer hoorah we went to Mohican for a picnic and hike. It was a beautiful sunny day with a little chill in the air. Once we arrived at Mohican we set up our food and started grilling. While we prepared the food the kids went down to the river to catch crayfish, they also played on the swings and with a bag full of toys. We grilled hot dogs, brats and corn. We also had homemade potato salad and drinks. After eating our yummy lunch, we decided to go on a hike, today we decided to hike the easy side, even though we didn't take the stroller - we figured Hailey could walk this time :) It was a fun hike....Brit, Mikey and Ashley decided to try a new trail but after awhile turned back when they saw a sign saying the trail was 11 miles. I took tons of pictures of Hailey and daddy exploring.....picking up walking sticks, "touching" all the high branches of trees, picking up rocks, throwing rocks in the river, picking flowers, walking on logs.....everything they could think of, they did. Hailey had a great time...we walked to the end by the Damn and threw some rocks....somewhere along the way we had a little mud fight....then we turned back. We stopped at our usuall spot to go in the "cave" and sit on the big logs and rocks. We also found a new tree that Poey and the kids took turns running up. It was a beautiful, fun day....Ashley wanted to stay and hike the other side but it was getting late, and the older kids started school the next day. So we went back to the picnic area and cut up the watermelon, everyone had a huge chunk...Brit had several....the little girls kept saying YUM....the kids played in the water some more. Brit, Mike and me came up with a new "Figure Eight" Swingset game....which was alot of fun but could be painful. Then we packed up and headed back home. It was a wonderful day full of laughs and memories, we can't wait to come back...the next time we do the leaves will probably be all bright colors.
